Driving to
Winterhaven
From New York City
•Saw Mill Parkway (or your preferred route) to Taconic State Parkway North
•Exit onto NY Route 295 East
•NY 295 to NY Route 22 North (alternatively, turn off onto NY 23 East towards Hillsdale for a nice break at the Hillsdale House at JCT22/23)
•NY 22 North joins NY 7 East
•Stay on NY 7 East following signs to VT 279--bear left at the amber flashing light. (Do not follow signs to US Route 7 or turn right at the flashing light.)
•At the end of VT 279, follow the signs to US 7 North. This will involve making a 270-degree right-hand turn on the ramp.
•Take US 7 North to Rutland, where it joins US 4 East
•Follow US 4/7 through Rutland
•At traffic light immediately after Grand Union, turn right to follow US 4 East (Walgreen's on the corner)
•US Route 4 about eight and a half miles up hill to Pico Ski Area on right
•Right into Pico Base area, then follow "From US Route 4" below
From US Route 4
•Enter at the big green Pico Mtn. sign
•Turn right onto Alpine Drive
•Winterhaven is 1/2 mile up Alpine Drive on the left
(Sign in front with cow on skis says "Winterhaven") It's the third driveway/second obvious house on the left after the second switchback.
From Boston
•Take I-93 North to I-89 North
•Take I-89 North to Exit 1 in Vermont - Quechee
•Turn left off exit onto US Route 4 West
•Take US 4 West about 40 miles
•Pass Killington and go over Sherburne Pass
•Turn left into Pico Base area, then follow "From US Route 4" below
From New Jersey
•I-287 North to I-87 North
•I-87 North through Albany continuing north to Exit 17N
•Follow US 9 off the exit until the light where NY 197 splits off to the right (just under a mile)
•Go right at that light onto NY 197 and follow it to US Route 4
•Turn left onto US Route 4 East
•Follow US Route 4 all the way into Vermont and right to Pico. US 4 joins up with US 7 in Rutland, and splits off again at the light after the Grand Union (where you should turn right). Follow "From US Route 4" below once you’re at Pico.
From Connecticut
•Take either the Merritt Parkway or I-95 North. If you take I-95, I suggest taking Exit 38 to the Milford Parkway to the Wilbur Cross. If you stay on the Merritt, it becomes the Wilbur Cross.
•Take the WIlbur Cross till it meets up with I-91 North, and get onto I-91
•Take I-91 through the rest of CT, all of MA, and up to Exit 9 in VT (Hartland)
•Get off at Exit 9 and go left onto VT 12 Northbound (make sure to follow signs and stay left to remain on VT-5 when it splits from US-5)
•Take VT 12 north until it hits US 4
•Go left onto US 4
•Take US 4 through Woodstock, Bridgewater, and Killington
•Turn left into Pico Base area, then follow "From US Route 4" below
Feel free to use other directions from the map on the previous page. There are other ways of getting here, but you will find you’ll want a car once you’re in Killington.
